In March 2022 after the Dutch government's call to freeze institutional academic cooperation with Russian institutions, the UvA decided to suspend the activities of the NIP.
As of this moment no projects and programs with Russian institutions take place, no visits of Dutch students and researchers to Petersburg. In October 2022, it was decided that NIP — as one of the NWIBs and institute of Dutch universities — has space to be able to organize activities in the Netherlands for its Dutch target group, namely Dutch students and researchers interested in Russian Studies.

The NIP has for many years been a special meeting place for Dutch and Russian students and researchers, both in Russia and in the Netherlands. The aspect of community building is very much needed: in this way the NIP can remain a meeting place online and offline for the Dutch students and academics who want to know more about Russia and especially to stay in touch with each other, even in today's circumstances.
