Nikolay Pirogov: a belated student of the Leiden medical school?

A joint medical history of the Netherlands and Russia.
Lezing Inge Hendriks 24-4

Did you know that the Netherlands and Russia had close relationships in the medical field during the 18th and 19th century? A significant number of Dutch physicians came to practice in Russia and occupied senior positions in Russian medical services. Likewise, talented Russian-born students were sent to Leiden on state scholarship. Inge Hendriks is a graduate of Slavic Language and Literature at the Leiden University. She is currently a PhD-researcher at the Leiden University Medical Center where she is researching the History of Medicine of 19th century imperial Russia, with a focus on Nikolay Ivanovich Pirogov. On the 24th of april at 19:00 she came to the Dutch institute to tell us more about this shared medical history of the Netherlands and Russia.
